This year, the American Laryngological, Rhinological and Otological Society, Inc., aka The Triological Society has called upon several physicians to speak at its annual convention, which was held this past weekend in San Diego, CA.

Two of s finest., Drs. Jonathan Aviv (Manhattan) and Craig Zalvan (Sleepy Hollow, Westchester), who are both considered world experts on the treatment of reflux disease, specifically laryngopharyngeal reflux or LPR, spoke together on a panel discussing reflux treatment. They were among top experts including Drs. Al Merati, Ozlem Tulunay, and moderated by Dr. Robert Sataloff. Both Drs. Aviv and Zalvan are strong supporters of a dietary approach to treatment with avoidance of medication in most cases. Dr. Aviv has written on using a acid neutralization and avoidance approach ( The Acid Watcher Diet and Cookbook ) and Dr. Zalvan has published in JAMA demonstrating that a mostly plant based, Mediterranean style diet with alkaline water and avoidance of triggers works as well as using proton pump inhibitors. Both frequently lecture nationally and internationally on these topics but this American Society of Geriatric Otolaryngology meeting at the Triological Society Meeting in San Diego was the first time Drs. Aviv and Zalvan shared their approaches together.
This meeting, which attracts a huge number of otolaryngologists from across the country, represents the ideal forum for to demonstrate its knowledge in the practice of Otolaryngology.
In addition, Sujana Chandrasekhar, MD, of ’s Grand Central and Wayne offices was elected as Vice President of the Eastern Section of the Triological Society.
